Round trip flights to Greece from several US cities starting at $551

If you are thinking of visiting Greece this year, now is the time to act. Airlines cut their fares to this popular Mediterranean destination from various cities in the United States across the board.

Round-trip flights to Greece can cost upwards of $800, but this deal offers at least 30% off the usual fares. Travel to Athens, the capital of Greece, or visit smaller cities like Thessaloniki, Chania and Rhodes. Visit the Parthenon in Athens or take a stroll through the ancient Venetian port of Chania.

Many airlines offer this deal from November 2022 to May 2023. There are some exceptions for holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Eve.

Temperatures in Greece are cooler in late fall and full winter. However, this deal provides an opportunity to visit the popular places of the country without huge crowds of tourists.

Keep in mind that some hotels may be closed during the fall and winter months due to lack of demand.

Sample flights

One of the best things about this deal is its flexibility. Routes to many popular destinations in Greece are reduced from many major cities in the United States

It is also worth noting that many cities in the Los Angeles area such as Burbank and Long Beach have reduced prices specifically to Athens. Every trip we found includes at least one layover in this deal.

Here are some of the flights that have been reported:

  • United, Brussels and Lufthansa: Departure from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Athens International Airport (ATH), starting at $551 (including stopover)
  • Delta and Air France: From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to Athens, starting at $556 (including multiple layovers).
  • Lufthansa, Switzerland and the United States: Departs from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Athens, starting at $560 (including layover).
  • Switzerland, United and Delta: From Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to Athens, starting at $575 (including multiple stops).
  • Canadian Air: Departure from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Thessaloniki Airport (SKG), starting at $575 (including multiple stops).
  • Veneer: From New York (JFK) to Chania Airport (CHQ), starting at $590 (including stop).
  • Veneer: Departures from New York (JFK) to Rhodes Airport (RHO), starting at $598 (including layover).
  • Austrian and Swiss: Departs from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Thessaloniki, starting at $633 (including stop).

We recommend using Google Flights to determine your best availability and then booking flights directly on the airline’s website. In case of cancellation, delay or change of booking, airlines tend to be more reliable compared to third party booking sites.

With this deal, you can spend Thanksgiving in Greece.

For a November 23 flight to Athens from New York’s JFK, Google Flights offers two options from Lufthansa and Swiss both priced at $560. The only difference between the two is that the Swiss flight is a little longer than an hour in terms of travel time. The Lufthansa flight stops in Munich, while the Swiss flight stops in Zurich.

When booking a return flight to New York, the Swiss flight is the only option that will keep the fare at $560. It departs from Athens at 9:20 am on November 30. The Swiss itinerary also includes a layover in Zurich.

You may notice some price differences between Google Flights and airline websites. Sometimes prices on Google Flights differ from those on airline websites due to third party booking options.

Additionally, you can book your tickets directly with Lufthansa, Swiss or United via their websites.

The prices included in this deal only apply to Economy Class. For Lufthansa, these are prices for the airline’s light economy class option, which only allows passengers to bring one hand baggage free of charge and have no refunds. Tickets can be rebooked, but Lufthansa charges a fee. Seat selection has an additional fee.

Choosing a specific seat costs an additional $14 to $85. The most expensive seats provide the most legroom. You can also skip seat selection altogether and instead allocate a seat at random.

For Economy Light, the first checked bag costs $75 per flight, so if you check a suitcase, you’ll add an extra $150 to the $560 fare. A second taped bag costs $90.

This deal is worth the action, and discounted rates are available from multiple cities in the US. You also have a range of cities in Greece to choose from.

However, keep in mind that these cheap fares are often for basic economy classes, which may not be comfortable for long periods of travel. Also, basic economy class can be just bones, requiring additional fees for seat selection and checked baggage.
