Indian Railways has conducted more than 65,000 special train journeys to weather the extra rush and meet passenger demand during 2021-22. To increase the carrying capacity of the trains, about 566 buses were permanently increased to different pistons. To get the most out of rolling stock, Indian Railways conducted a review of lie shovels and noted that shovels could be better used to extend existing services or increase frequency. This will maximize the use of rolling stock and provide better connectivity for the traveling passengers. During the year 2021-2022, 106 new services were introduced, 212 services were expanded, and the frequency of 24 services increased.

Indian Railways is converting Mail/Express trains powered by ICF design pistons to improve passenger safety and provide faster transit with better driving comfort. Indian Railways transferred 187 MXX from ICF to LHB for the period from 2021 to 2022.
Indian Railways Premium Train Service:
At present, Vande Bharat Express trains operate between New Delhi – Varanasi and New Delhi – Shri Mata Vaishnu Devi Katra. Another Vande Bharat Express train was introduced between Gandhinagar Capital and Mumbai Central wef 30.09.2022. It is proposed to introduce more Vande Bharat Express trains across the Indian Railways network. Tejas Express providing in-flight services such as entertainment, local cuisine, Wi-Fi, etc. is also spread across the Indian Railways network. At present, 7 pairs of Tejas Express services operate on Indian Railways.
As part of the digitization of the train timetable, Trains at a Glance (TAG) will now also be available as an “e-book” that can be downloaded from the IRCTC website (www.irctc.co.in & http://www.irctourism.com).
